All right. I'm going to be the asshole here. What everyone seems to be ignoring here is that you threatened to kill someone on your facebook page and were put in jail. You might be a little biased. Yes, there are bad cops. However, no cop is a mental health professional. They have to deal with kids like you who flip the fuck out (even if it is mental illness, which I understand, you were probably a pain in the ass), murders, suicides, accidents, abuse, etc. frequently. These are people who have to see what you would consider a nightmare on a regular basis. Do you think maybe she took your threat seriously and was trying to stop you from hurting someone? Sure, maybe you are sick. Again, I understand that, but a cop does not have to. They are not there to coddle you. Your doctors should have been doing that. Cops are there to make people safe. Yes, some are corrupt and do a fucked up job, but they are, by and large, the good guys. A few bad seeds and everyone is all "fuck the police" up in here. Do you have any idea how many lives are saved by police officers every day? Let's not shit on the whole institution.
TL;DR You were arrested for a legitimate reason. It is not a police officer's job to make sure you are on meds and getting all of your cuddles.
And . . . I amazingly agree with you. It is not for them to determine if you are mentally ill. Judges can do that. Lawyers and doctors can do that. A cop's job is to enforce the law.
And, another thing, you are not any less of a threat because you are mentally ill. It is not as if the cop should have said, "Oh, well, in that case, go ahead and keep scaring the shit out of your ex."

If you're sad/angry, you're entitled to break the law. The cops are dicks for doing their job (enforcing laws), rather than empathising with you and letting you off with a warning.
