I'm a bit NW of Phoenix. We drove out Route 8 one time to San Diego. I thought Yuma was a nice pit stop....at least the toilets flushed in Denny's.
It is hard to explain Route 8 to non- Arizonans. Picture a 4 lane road with a median, a string of utility poles running alongside and a set of rail road tracks right next to it. AND NOTHING ELSE!
Seriously. You could walk 10 yards north or south of the highway and shoot a dinosaur movie with no fear of seeing anything man-made in your shot. Desolation? Thou art Route 8.
