My name's Michael and I just wanted to say hey before I begin posting throughout the forum. Growing up in a family of Catholics, god was a pretty big part of my life. However I did manage to resist the urge to sell my soul to either god or the devil and found Atheism. I am now a gentle heathen that loves to interact on the net. I have only recently began spreading my own messages and interacting via the internet but it's a lot of fun to find so many of us around.
Atheism for me is a very important aspect of my life. Because it allows me to cherish life in the here and now, and not allow it to seep away thinking I will have eternal life after I'm dead. It disappoints me when people mistake Atheism for a religion, because this shows they just do not understand what it actually is. I am dead-set against any sort of teaching of religion on children. It is unfair to brainwash them into being afraid of something, but at the same time, love that something. It's important that humanity allows children to make up their own minds in order for generations to succeed.
We have science, we understand things we did not understand before. We should stop living upon the ideals of ancient misogynistic men and believe what we see in the here and now.
Thanks for taking the time to read and I look forward to chatting with you all in the forums.

Welcome !
I am also a newbie. I grew up in a catholic home myself. Everyone around me is religious. My little brother is 7 and he just made his communion. I had to sit by for weeks, watching my little buddy
get brainwashed by my family, his school and the local church.
Driving me nuts I turned to the interweb and here I am.
So i totally agree with you.
“There is no such thing as a Christian child: only a child of Christian parents.”
― Richard Dawkins, The God Delusion
We are all atheists about most of the gods that societies have ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further.
