From what I've read on the subject of NPD, haughty, arrogant and condescending behaviours are an integral part of the disorder (along with pathological envy).

That would be one specific form that the disorder takes when it's associated with a few other choice behaviours. At it's core, npd is the creation and maintenance of a "false self"or "splitting", the theory being that this is undertaken due to a deeply held conviction that some part of ones self is unacceptable to others - and so you put on the airs, project what you wish to be, or what you wish others to see you as, insistently demanding that they do so even if that appraisal is not warranted- while simultaneously distancing one's self from those things which are seen as less desirable. The ideal self and the actual self become confused - and the person with the disorder may begin to lose a grip on which was which to begin with. Amusingly, despite any outward haughtiness and a potential for decreased empathy, people with npd are extremely sensitive - and this is a large portion of what leads to the disorder. The behaviors you see outwardly are an expression of a defense mechanism, they are not the disorder itself. Whatever behaviors are successful in that regard and associated with the ideal self (and this is very specific to the person, don't you think?) are those expressed. My ideal self isn't condescending, even when it's called for - but I often am. Now, my experience with the disorder is not typical (if we want to use the word) and perhaps that's because the onset doesn't appear to have happened in childhood for me, as it is thought to happen in most. Once upon a time, I really wanted something - and I suppose I got it.

Now that we've had a sitdown at the chair, I get to remind you that you detected condescension because you made a statement that deserved it, not because of any quirk of mine. You see, the internet is this wonderful place where I don't have to project any particular self, I don't have my actual self to contend with or devalue as none of you ever have any chance of experiencing it. Here, I just get to be me.

This is a small piece of evidence, and I have been researching this topic for a long time. I am of the opinion that people should get off their ass and do their own research, so if you are genuinely interested in the topic, make the effort to perform your own research.

No, it isn't, and no, they don't. They did, once, and that's largely why they don't give a shit about it anymore - as before, unproductive - ineffective. People stopped giving a shit about spoonbenders long ago Love. These projects were all abandoned. We look into things that don;t pan out. Looking into something does not establish it's existence, or add credibility to a claim. Perhaps if we were having this conversation in 1978 you could claim that our military was looking into para-psi, but very seriously? No, not even by a long stretch. In 1978 they were looking into jet propulsion, new rounds and rifles, and new body armor "very seriously" -para sci, for example was a cranks pet project one year out from the start of a rolling series of cancellations due to a complete and abject failure to produce any results. Some portions of other para sci projects managed to hobble along like cripples until they too were abandoned for precisely the same reasons. When the first bell tolled on one para sci project it began ringing in every other. One of the larger and more pimped out projects that people so inclined like to point at garnered a -whopping- 20mil in funding. Thats less than lunch money to these people Love. So no, frankly, they were never all that serious - but if it had shown promise...might have been a different story.
