The political circle (particularly in the US) call a "wahhabi" anyone who takes the Qur'an literally. In fact, one of the Muslims scholars that teaches me went to a US state department conference where he asked a state department official what they mean when they say the word "wahhabi", and the response from the official? "Anyone who has a literal understanding of the Qur'an". To say I am analogous to a Christian abortion clinic bomber is off the mark, that's just not true.
In my experience every Muslim I encountered were moderates. I blame the corporate news outlets for the skewed picture.
