Hitler, the Crusaders, bin Laden, Westboro Baptist…religions have been manipulated for selfish reasons by malpractitioners. But am I going to generalize that "Muslims are terrorists"? Distortion of religion can be done by everybody, including atheists. An atheist can theorize that not all people are equal and it would take the atheist community to set things back on track.
To every Hitler, there is the Catholic Church (controversially), to every bin Laden, there is a Muslim community, and to every Westboro Baptist, there are Christians who take the Christian message at heart.
False belief is simply straying away from the true belief, which is not changed by the Hitler or the bin Laden.
