It is, bluntly, pointless when people say that other people in distress "are in" their "prayers". When I am aware that other people are in distress, I do something, or not. Speaking about or posting the event socially while it happens is the worst, taking the spectator's position like some god would do and bystand while the people You supposedly care about die.
Examples are the videos You see about Oklahoma in May 2013 where the video descriptions are "you are in my prayers" or "praying for you", upload the video, and abandon the city.
