That part of the bible is vague. I'm not going to look it up, but if I remember correctly this guy takes his brother's wife because the brother died. God told him to take his wife and raise his brother's child that she was pregnant with.
So when he did the pull out method, was it because he spilled his seed on the ground? Or was it because he wanted to make sure the woman was impregnated by his dead brother and not himself?
It looks like it could very easily be that god killed him because of that doubt he had.
