I've read it attributed to Einstein by a reputable psychologist so I accept he said it.

I am even thinking to give you a kudos.

But like all his other references to God and the irrational he isn't urging us to lay down in the muck of the unknowable. He never recommends abandoning oneself to god-knows-what.

But, but, but at the same time he does not even tell you that you should reject a teacher.
If you think in this way then why you went to school and accept a teacher to guide you to higher degree?
Did you check the teacher qualifications and references before you started the school?

I think he really is encouraging us to embrace our conscious roles of tying up the loose ends and building legs under the productions of the intuitive mind.

Albert went much further then that.
Intuition gave him the answer and solution to his many questions.
He got the theory of relativity out of his intuit, Paul McCartney also got the tune for Yesterday out of his intuition via a dream and so many other so called inventors got the knowledge out of intuition most of the time via a dream.
In other words they did not invented anything all they did they got the knowledge that was already within.
The system work in this way..........you study, you struggle you hope, you wish and wish and after you put a real effort into the task to uncover the solution finally you are rewarded.
But who give you the reward?

You serve the intuitive mind not by accepting the authoritative dogma of a teacher but by remaining open to allowing its expression in you while serving it in a support role. No teacher required.

No teacher required anymore once you get the licence to drive but before that you got to study the theory (teacher) and then you got to have an other teacher who explain you the difference between the brake and the accelerator when for the first time you sit in the driving seat.
Sure, you could come to the conclusion by yourself but in the real life almost none does as it could be very dangerous and take more time.
Relying on someone who got experience in a particular field is the best way to get there quicker and safer.

Since you are so fond of teachers and that is my day job I've decided to assign you homework. You can see the use of the Einstein quote in this talk/animation by the psychologist Gilchrist. The quote comes in the end, you might skip to the start of the 11th minute and watch about 30 seconds to get to the quote right away. But if you then go back and watch it from the beginning, perhaps you can tell me what is wrong with a natural explanation such as he offers for understanding the nature of the self?
