One time I was in a car wreck. I was a passenger and my buddy was driving. We had to come to a screeching halt and stopped less than two feet behind the vehicle in front of us. A truck towing a trailer slammed into us. Totalled the truck we were in. My buddy asked me to say I was driving because he didn't have a valid driver license.
So I did it. Now I knew that we had come to a complete stop before we were rear ended and slammed into the car ahead of us. But I was a little banged up. Just bruises but my head and gut was aching. When the cop asked me how fast we were going when we were hit I just blurted out we were going like 30 mph or something.
My buddy looked at me strange. But my head was killing me and I didn't give a fuck. Luckily the cop was experienced and realized I was confused. We weren't cited for being at fault in the accident.
Later I looked back and wondered why I said we were going around 30 mph when we were hit when I knew for a fact we were at a dead stop.
People get flustered and say incorrect things. Even when, during more reflective times, you know that wasn't the truth.
Telling an anecdote about blatantly lying, which you did willfully, and not just when you lied about the speed you were going, but also when you agreed to pretend you were the driver, isn't helpful to your argument.
