I read that exceptions were made for muslims living in places where there's a lot of daylight. Another thing that came up when I was checking healthcare news as that a local hospital started a program counselling diabetics who are doing ramadan on how to manage their conditions, something not everyone thinks about. Diabetics' eating schedule should sync up with their injection/medication and ramadan really messes that up. Not to mention no drinking, which means no exercising at all. I mean what about muslim construction workers? Someone clearly did not think this through. Although they say diabetics are not required to go through ramadan, of course most muslim diabetics still do because they're devout.
