The dinosaurs may have disappeared for glaciation or other reasons but that does not mean that the linear evolution is interrupted.
Their consciousness will carry on in some other form of life so the linear evolution continue unabated.

The best physical representation of evolution is a tree. Branches spring out from previous branches. Some of those branches are long and hardy, others are pretty thin and short. There's no direct 'lines' from one branch to another other than the branch it came from.
And if by "their consciousness" you mean the dinosaurs', that died out when they did.
Or technically, their "consciousness" is still around. It's just that today we call them birds.
