What I think about generalities is that everyone who makes a generalization is generally an ignoramus.
If there is even a single exception to the rule then the accuracy of the generality is nullified.
Yet there are potentially millions of examples of individuals from all sects or groups which are different from others within their group.
Humans are unique creatures, there are intelligent irrational atheists; unintelligent irrational atheists; intelligent rational atheists; unintelligent rational atheists; intelligent irrational theists; unintelligent irrational theists; intelligent rational theists; unintelligent rational theists; confused intelligent irrational homosexual clear window preference, white car loving, albino, meat-eating, pot-smoking, marathon running theists... and then everyone else....
The point is that everyone is so wildly different from each other that to take a summary of a group of beliefs as a personal attack on your individual character is to ignore the diversity of views which are often mistakenly labeled as denominations, when in reality each human is his own denomination.
An argument may be made by an atheist against a religious text, against a historical fact, against individual behavior, or any other point of contention. But to ignore the point of contention and to take said argument as a personal attack is to disengage from the intellectually honest debate and topic at hand.
More pertinent to this particular thread, if genocide is committed by god in the Bible, and a Christian believes that the Bible is from god, then that is a major issue which will be met with harsh reception from the typical atheist arguing this point on the moral grounds.
Defend your beliefs rationally with evidence and concise rhetoric, as opposed to logical fallacy and blind emotion.
So, you may argue "but god only had the men, women, children, infants, and animals slaughtered by the Jews because that town had to be cleansed, and god's infinite wisdom knew this was the only way to pave the way for the future."
Then I would argue, "If god is so powerful and all-knowing then why wouldn't he create a more effective and morally substantial method of accomplishing this tumultuous task? A task which has proven inefficient anyways because we still live in a world ruled by immorality and the Jews aren't doing so well considering that god killed all of their enemies and literally paved the path for their success.... Maybe they would've been better off without the god of the Bible causing them to be ridiculed for child slaughter, rape victims, and male domination."
Then you could continue your contentions and we would be thus engaged in an intellectual discussion.
Or you could just say fuck off and we continue proving the theory of evolution true by behaving like animals.
imo, anyways.
tl;dr version
Let's have an intelligent discussion about why I and many atheists believe religion is absurd, illogical, immoral, and harmful for society.

“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.” - Marcus Aurelius
