Our taboos are not universal and never have been. Nor are they consistent, as a glance at the social history of most countries will show.
Currently,the US seems to be the most sexually repressed nation in the developed world.As an adolescent,I could never understand what I saw as a snickering attitude and large mammary fixation typified by Playboy magazine.
Nor some of our most basic sexual taboos universal. Homosexuality is accepted in some quite traditional societies. Not even incest is a universal taboo.-and that is without the different notions of familial relationships,which are cultural inventions.Even those we consider basic, such as mother,father,sister brother.
