How we judge whether life is sentient (ie they feel things) Well octopodes (Not definitely are they are quite intelligent creatures but the important things is whether they feel pain. There is good evidence to suggest that most insects probably do not and that oysters definitely do not (not having a brain) single cell protists definitely not. I don't eat anything with a face.

If you provide some way, some test to determine objectively which organisms can feel pain and which can't and then abstain from eating those that do, I'll be persuaded to think vegetarians aren't just cherry picking their favourite organisms. So far I'm not buying it.

Oh I see. You're conflating "has a face" with "can feel pain", because us humans have faces and we use them to convey emotion. Way to go.
