I'm wondering how vegetarians/vegans classify what life is sentient, and what isn't. Are eels sentient? are octopi, cuttlefish or tarantulas? how about jellyfish? sea slugs? or even single celled protists with which the line between animal and plant is blurred, and which you probably ingest in the millions whilst drinking a glass of water? It seems to me only cute, fluffy mammals are spared, and fuck everything else. Just some food for thought.

I'd like to know that also. Can they take antibiotics with an easy conscience?

I can only speak for myself. If the organism seems developed enough to experience pain, then I'd prefer not to be involved in its killing for food. For me, that includes all animals except mosquitos. Fuck mosquitos.

Well, feel lucky that you are in a privileged enough part of the world that you get to choose not to eat animals. Animals have eaten other animals since the beginning of life on our planet but for some reason its beginning to be viewed wrong for humans to do it. We've done it for hundreds of thousands of years and for good reason, pain is a natural part of life but unfortunately it is neccessary.

'You can have all the faith you want in spirits, and the afterlife, and heaven and hell, but when it comes to this world, don't be an idiot. Cause you can tell me you put your faith in God to put you through the day, but when it comes time to cross the road, I know you look both ways.' - Dr House

It 'seems to you' does it? WIthout actually asking anyone you make grand pronouncements because it 'seems to you'
How we judge whether life is sentient (ie they feel things) Well octopodes (Not definitely are they are quite intelligent creatures but the important things is whether they feel pain. There is good evidence to suggest that most insects probably do not and that oysters definitely do not (not having a brain) single cell protists definitely not. I don't eat anything with a face.

I think so ..yes

Inflicting pain for your personal pleasure is certainly NOT necessary

If you provide some way, some test to determine objectively which organisms can feel pain and which can't and then abstain from eating those that do, I'll be persuaded to think vegetarians aren't just cherry picking their favourite organisms. So far I'm not buying it.
In bold,
Oh I see. You're conflating "has a face" with "can feel pain", because us humans have faces and we use them to convey emotion. Way to go.

Whilst it makes no sense to me, I guess he's entitled to eat based on faces, fingers or number of letters in the animals name, provided he's not telling us we should be doing the same.
Personally I could never live to that standard. I like gingerbread men too much.
