We liberated Afghanistan in partnership with anti-Taliban forces. To attempt to institute such an oppressive regime unilaterally would further damage our reputation in the international community, weakening the credibility of our foreign policy efforts in the region, and encouraging pro-Islamic and anti-Western sentiment in the populace both within and outside its borders. It would be a foreign policy disaster.
