Would I be right in thinking this is how you see the cult of Jim Jones, the Branch Davidians or the Heaven's Gate cult?
They all died for their lies too.
And they lived in the modern age, not in a more superstitious time when ancient Judea chaffed under Roman rule and was desperately searching for their messiah.
Even if you COULD prove that the apostles all died for their beliefs (folklore), it would be special pleading to accept this as proof of the truth of their beliefs and yet dismiss Jim Jones or David Koresh as crazy.
