(February 10, 2014 at 8:37 am)Sword of Christ Wrote: In the early part of the Bible the assumption was that the gods of other nations did exist but were trivial things and latter they are depicted as being nothing but idols of carved wood and stone that were capable of doing nothing at all.Curious, isn't it? The word of god isn't sure whether or not there were other gods and simply assumed their existence until later on. Maybe the truth is that those other gods did exist and by the time of the NT, Yahweh had killed them all. Now he could present himself to humanity as a kinder, gentler deity and tell people to be nice to one another.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
