I certainly believe it was the original intention of the people we're talking about was to be like Christ in their actions. This is, after all, how a Christian is defined is it not? In looking at evidence of actions we can judge to a certain extent the motivations for those actions and compare them to the model they claim to follow.
And you are correct; grace is what saves us and not works... which would then allow for mistakes.
You don't claim any affiliation with any other atheist, other than a shared lack of belief. Likewise I claim no affiliation with theists, other than their adherence to the definition. What you're saying is akin to me saying that atheism encompasses something outside adherence to the definition. Which would of course be nonsense.
