So, what they want you to do, is become so gullible before you read the Bible, that you'll be able to excuse and rationalize any atrocity, immorality, and magical event in the Bible.
If you read it before you are gullible enough, you might actually have to admit, that it just may be immoral when 'God' condones owning and beating slaves. Exodus 21
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
