Unfounded assertion it would seem. Unless you can back up what you say about grain especially, and the fact that meat is protein rich.
While his claim wasn't very specific or refined, it's obviously true. Note that "mostly vegan" is not the opposite of "mostly meat".
"Mostly vegan" would probably mean mostly eating foods that don't contain meat, eggs, dairy, or gelatin (e.g. candy, twinkies, chocolate, beef jerky, hot dogs). This is pretty much what the food guide pyramid recommends.
Eating "mostly meat" is, well, a pretty bad idea.
