The problem is purely intellectual. Assuming supernatural influence, purpose can be understood. God can be understood.

Understanding is knowledge is what faith is built on.

No it's not too much. It's absolutely correct.

Sure it's used, abused, misunderstood.

And many of those abuses and whatnot are/have been informed by the belief in god.

Anything can be abused. A beautiful girl might be used to lure innocent victims > therefore we should kill all beautiful girls?
