Or are you setting unrealistic expectations. It is the same old song and dance every time. I say this, you respond with the Crusades and child abuse cases that, while significant issues WITHIN the Church, that is, issues that needed to be worked out, just as a team focusses on issues in practice, really are beside the point of the Church's mission.
I have no expectations at all for the Church. Except that it history will likely repeat itself with Christian policies of denying and persecuting anything that doesn't fit their worldview. I seriously couldn't give a shit about Catholicism unless it impinges on my life.
And don't you dare compare the systematic cover up of child rape to a kink that needs to be worked out in practice. That is offensive, if nothing else.
By all measures, the Church's mission is first and foremost to protect itself. Apparently by any means necessary.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great
