The series is departing from the books in a lot of ways, particularly bran's story line. But on the Lannister side, they are staying pretty true. I am (neutral non-spoiler emotion) about it.

Okay, phew, that was close...

Quote:Its not that Martin kills off the good guys - he blows away baddies too. His MO is to create a complex character with a convoluted back-story and then, just as you are warming to them, just as you are starting to think about all the things that character can and will do - then he bumps them off.
Perhaps it's just the way the show has diverged from the books but I don't find Jon Snow to be that compelling of a character anymore. Whenever we go up to the wall I always want to see Sam and Gilly, both of whom I see as more complex and who currently have more compelling stories.
I'm also kind of starting to get that feeling with Dany, which sucks because I loved her character in seasons 1 and 2. The parts of the show with her have gotten boring to me.
Quote:Invariably, additionally, he makes those deaths stupid, wasteful and unjust - surely you picked that up from the Red Wedding.
More ignominious ends await I assure you, one in particular.
In someways I like that some of the deaths in GOT have been stupid, wasteful and unjust - if every death had a sense of poetic justice or every character got what was coming to them things would get boring and predictable very fast. Keeping thing "realistic" keeps people guessing and in the real world people die for stupid, wasteful and unjust reasons.
Teenaged X-Files obsession + Bermuda Triangle episode + Self-led school research project = Atheist.
