The Church and Science was in a union, it once served the church and was governed by it; like a child governed by its parent. One reason why science and religion get emotional in their irritation, is this past relationship; similar to the old famous family feuds in the south.

There are many atheists who believe science will eventually make belief irrelevant (whether gawd is disproved or not) but very few (if any) who desire it as a "mission" for science.
Please stop capitalizing the word atheist. We are NOT members of some cult and it is NOT a proper noun.
I did the caps out of respect, but it shall be as you wish, atheist.
