Yeah, well I never played it anyway. A friend of mine who was a fellow MoO2 fan bought it- said it was one of the worst games he'd ever played.

Indeed. But getting really good at anything, even a computer game, is pretty cool. TBH I don't think that the big problem with MoO2 was race design- the ship design system was way more unbalancing. If you design your ships properly (think: autofire AP beam weapons), and know how to play the tactical combat, then the AI will get massacred regardless of what race you're playing. The pre-designed ships are frankly very bad indeed, and thats what the AI uses.

The autofire can be overpoweringly nice... or it can be just so much wasted space. You have to have very nice battle computers to pull it off well... and if your enemies have good shields: you may as well have fired 2 of those three times in the opposite direction (At least this holds true in MoO... I don't think it is different in MoO2, but I don't know :S) *addendum: and for the space it takes up, one might as well have put in more weapons or the like for a similar effect*

If there is one good thing I can say about MoO2's race design... it is that they "fixed" (read: nerfed) the Psilon

Well you could, its just that there normally wasn't much point. Shuttles are expensive and take up a lot of space that you could be using for autofire AP beam weapons. Missiles and fighters are a complete waste too btw- they're too slow. Your ideal ships will have such overwhelming firepower that the AI fleet gets shredded in a few turns- i.e. before your missiles could even reach their targets.

It sounds like a good strategy to me... especially if you can steal tech by doing it :S Wait... the AI had ships weak enough to be destroyed before your missile-boats even hit them?! Yikes... this surely can't be impossible? :S

Yeah, 3D space battles would've been awesome.

Talking with you about MoO2 really makes me want to play the game again. Maybe I'll check out that site that you posted and buy it.

They'd only really be awesome if the VI can handle it well Of course.. while we're dreaming, let's say "multiplayer"

6$ for MoO and MoO2 on a system you can still get? If I had only heard it from someone, my first question would not have been "where?"... but rather "what are you smoking...?". I honestly can't fathom not getting it if you can play it... I hate windows...
