Sad I really just want to run back into my friends, and the characters in the beginning of the expansion just don't bring the same sense of character as the ones of the first game... Undecided

Never played it. I mainly play more historical games these days. Went through a phase of playing Civ4; now mainly play EU3.

I never did play Alpha Centauri.

Well, I certainly enjoy having a very powerful (quad core) PC. I'm a bit of a tech junkie in that respect. Alpha Centauri was good- imo the best of the Civ-type games. Like MoO there were viable multiple strategies for winning (at least 3 completely different ones that I can remember). And unlike Civ4, it actually made sense to build wonders on the difficult levels.

Quote:Postpone war with the Klackons?! That's not even right... did they change the tech model MoO2?

I can't really comment, since I can't remember what the original MoO tech model was.

Quote:*giggles* I forget... did they increase the size of the galaxy in MoO2? 8 players at once sounds insane and fun ^_^

In MoO2, galaxy size and number of players are 2 of the variables that you can play around with- you set them at the beginning of every game. Personally, I've always liked it most with 8 players (the maximum). Being able to change the variables gives you a more varied gaming experience.

Quote:There is no such thing as a border when you are neighbor to the Silicoid How did the war with the Sakkra (and in fact the entire game, if you remember it) go?

The Silicoid attacked the Sakkara shortly after I did! This was bad, since it meant that I got to fight the Sakkara fleet, and the Silicoids got to capture all of the undefended bits of their empire. Surprising smart play by the AI.

Anyway, it ended up with the galaxy divided up between us Psilons and the Silicoids. They managed to steal some key techs (including Xentronium armor, which I'd got when I captured Orion), so their military was pretty damn hard. I won by attacking Antares. A bit of a cop-out really, but after the first game I was very keen to get a win under my belt, and war with the Silicoids looked risky.

Since then, I've played 3 more games- won 1 and lost 2, so the total is W2 L3. My main problem seems to be the Psilons. Every time I've played against them, I've lost the game. The Psilon problem boils down to this: with the Psilons in the game I end up in a tech race with them and a ships/ colonies race with the Sakkara/ Silicoids/ Klackons. I can win one race, but not both, and consequently lose. Without the Psilons, I don't have to put so much emphasis on tech. I can stay ahead of the other races, and still build enough ships and colonies.

I certainly didn't have this problem 10 years ago- I always used to play the Trilarians or the Humans (customized). So pretty clearly, my skill at MoO2 ain't what it used to be. Hopefully, I'll be able to re-learn and triumph over the Psilon menace.
