The country that first abolished slavery and set about to free the world from it, the country the managed to rule the largest empire of all time. The country that stood up to the nazis single handed and kept the light of democracy burning in europe, the driving force behind the industrial age , discoverers of gravity and evolution.
That's why they call it Great Britain.
pssshhhttt....wasn't so great after we beat your asses in two wars!
Pssht the war of independence was really the French against the English the Americans were bit players. Without the french blockade you would have stood no chance and the other war the punitive war were we burnt your capital to the ground and then left gracefully that war.

You do know that's not why it's called Great Britain, right? The title was originally intended as a means to distinguish the country from Brittany and then adopted formally in the two Acts of Union of 1706/7, with the merger of the kingdoms of Scotland and England. The official title since 1921 is "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland".
Of course I know that, we have a proper educational system here, I was just giving my impression of A theist if he was a Brit.
This seems to have not come across in translation.
