The Catholic Church did not issue a proclamation that Pope Francis is fallible on social issues last year. That's been the rule for over a century.
And there isn't a list of "subjects" that the Pope is infallible on. The Pope can claim to be infallible on anything, but it has to be a statement, first of all, and there is a system that he has to go through.
And now you're saying that he has to defend his infallibility. If he wanted to defend it, he wouldn't use it. There isn't an escape hatch. If your argument even made sense, the Catholic Church would have backpedaled for miles by now.
I know that the Pope was proclaimed to only be infallible on church doctrine by the First Vatican Council in 1870. But the thing is that the pope says when he is infallible and only on a limited amount of subjects set by the hierarchy, so we just have to take his word for it like he's turning on a holy cheat code or something.
As for the pedophilia situation, you would think the Holy Spirit would give him the infallibly perfect solution that isn't controlled by the cardinals who seem to edit his statements quite frequently, but it only seems to SOMETIMES infallibly guide him where nobody can verify what he's saying is correct, and when he isn't correct such as the pedophilia situation, he isn't caught in an "infallible" lie. How convenient!
Luke: You don't believe in the Force, do you?
Han Solo: Kid, I've flown from one side of this galaxy to the other, and I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen *anything* to make me believe that there's one all-powerful Force controlling everything. 'Cause no mystical energy field controls *my* destiny. It's all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense.
