If we could simply ask him, the religious wouldn't be so divided. That's what Darkmatter is getting at. Jews, christians, and muslims all worship the same god, yet they can't come to a consensus on who is on the correct path. If my dad says something individually to my mother, my sister, and I, we might disagree with exactly what he said, but we can simply go back to him and straighten it out. We don't have to start beating each other up over what he said.
We can't simply ask god for answers, otherwise we would have already gotten it. If he hasn't straightened things out by now he either doesn't exist, doesn't care, or is unable to do anything about it.
