"Respect" does not mean "common courtesy", it is a word used by fascists and theocrats and the insecure. It is a way to silence criticism and blasphemy.
I am fine with, "I'll be nice to you if you are nice to me". But even within personal relationships, you still do not have the right to dictate to others. You can only request someone not do something, but you still do not have the right to make demands of them. If they do not stop doing something you don't like, then it is up to you to stay or go.
The apla male wants "respect", that is not moral, that is simply saying "know your place".
