It is a way to silence criticism and blasphemy and avoid having to think about your own claims.
It is used by the alpha male and the insecure as a way to silence others. It has nothing to do with merely being polite.
I told you HOW healthy relationships work.
You, "Hey would you mind not doing that"
Me, "Ok, yes I agree to stop"
Or
You, "Would you mind not doing that"
Me, "Yes I do mind"
You, "Ok, fine, see you later"
Not
You, "I demand you stop"
"I demand you stop" is what "respect" means, having nothing to do with a mutual relationship.
