Yes, there can be side effects to vaccines. They're usually minor and short lived and rare. On an even more rare occasion, they can be more serious, especially with people who have certain health conditions, but, like I said, that's rare enough that unless your doctor says otherwise, you can probably safely assume that you're safe.
On the other hand,the side-effect of not getting vaccinated, especially in large groups, winds up that you and the people around you tend to come down with a disease that you could have been easily vaccinated against. Not to mention, some of those diseases can have further, nasty side-effects later on down the road; ever heard of shingles, for example?
