It takes way, WAY more than 3000 miles before something like that happens. It has been "shown to be the lifespan of oil in your engine" is not accurate. It has been "declared to be the lifespan of oil in your engine" is. I have never changed my oil more often than every 5 to 6 thousand miles and never had an issue. Ever.
