I'm actually fine with the idea that science is based on faith or some fundemental assumption, like bennyboy said, as long as we get results. I would go further and say religion is not based on faith, but unfounded imagination with no results. Somehow, saying religion is based on faith gives it more credit where it's not due, as if to take it seriously.
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:
