Personally, I never bothered to research any religions. To me it would be like researching Harry Potter as an explanation of reality. The complete lack of evidence that any of these deities exist was enough to do it for me.

While I agree that it's not necessary, religious studies are actually a big passion of mine. This confuses a lot of theists, but it's really no different than the fact that I studied Greco-Roman mythology all throughout high school. As interested as I was in it, I didn't take it seriously. I can read the Bible today and see it in the exact same light.
