That appears to be true only up to the 18th dynasty where the word 'Pharoah' (great house) began to be applied as an epithet.

I wouldn't say that. It's bullshit because it's just plain wrong. The terminology isn't incorrect for the 25th dynasty in any case, and even earlier kings are loosely referred to as Pharaohs in modern vernacular even though it doesn't appear that the Egyptians did so.
