You didn't run away or shoot the guy and you got half your ear bitten off. Maybe Wilson didn't want his ear bitten off either, or worse.
Well, maybe Wilson had non-lethal weapons on his person, and the training to use them, too. Maybe he could have come to a non-lethal resolution to the situation. Maybe he was a policeman imbued with an overweening sense of arrogance and was a touch badge-heavy.
Maybe you missed the point.
