The Department of Justice is mulling legal action against the city of Ferguson, Missouri, after the city council moved to make several major revisions to a proposed federal consent decree, changes that could save the city money but also appear to sidestep efforts to bring policing in the city in line with the Constitution.

Far better to piss money away on hopeless law suits, right guys?

Yet Tuesday’s vote to restructure major parts of the 131-page consent decree may very well trigger such a lawsuit, a costly endeavor that could plunge the city into financial chaos.

Yep, well this is what 30 years of corporate welfare has done.

I think cops should be able to make it home after their shifts in one piece. But hard to train them not to shoot first when they don't get proper training or long term repetition of training, and then have to go onto the streets without the proper equipment and short on staff.

Combine that with an armed public, long term they are going to default to shoot first.

It shouldn't be society vs cops or cops vs society, but it is because our fucking rich and GOP cut funding to everything. And they also have a corporate death lobby protecting our flooded market of guns.

Because that is how representative government works. As a population grows the representation and services have to grow with the population, and just like anti monopoly concepts it is not a good idea to have everything under one umbrella. Just like our government could not work if it only had the original 13 state representatives.

I'd be frightened of one big government to cover all this if it were GOP run. Look at what the GOP has done to Michigan and Detroit and Flint. That damage is not coming from the local level, it is coming from the state capital level and the federal level.

If you want something like that, fine, but it has to be under a balanced system and right now our GOP gerrymandered system is favoring the GOP nation wide.

I have lots of family in St. Louis City and St. Louis County. From what I understand, STL City has tried several times over the years to rejoin the county, but the county voters don't want that. I can't imagine single municipalities in the County merging would be any easier. The fire service has done OK with this. There are many Fire Protection Districts that cover multiple towns. Not sure about Police Districts. We had a few of those in PA.

I drive through Ferguson eight times a week, minimum. Never had any trouble.
