And yet, W Bush arrived to lead us during an age of peace and prosperity and then he lied us into a war, destroyed the economy and trashed our reputation around the globe. Name for me one (1) thing Bush did that was positive. His entire presidency, no matter what anyone thinks of it, was an unmitigated disaster, leaving the country a smoldering wreckage.
Obama came in to lead this country during the greatest financial crisis since the Depression and salvaged the economy. Maybe it wasn't a boom time like the last time a Democrat was in the White House but I wouldn't trade it for the economic collapse we were suffering during the last quarter of 2008. A sluggish recovery beats economic collapse.
All of that is just the empirical data. These are historical facts one would have to be deluded to dispute.
But you're right about the opinions of half the likely voters.
This is why this country elected Bush in 2004 even after everyone paying attention knew that he'd lied us into a war.
This is why 46% of American voters in 2008 were just fine with voting for Sarah Palin as VP, placing her only one heartbeat of an elderly cancer patient who occupies the most stressful job in the world away from the Oval Office.
This is why the GOP could run any candidate, no matter how inept, no matter how stupid, no matter how badly the campaign is run, and still be guaranteed of getting at least 9/20 voters on election day.
That's the problem.
That's what this thread is about.
That's why we're in big trouble as a country.
