Humans only think they are because they do not know who they are as an outsider to their own self. They therefore must think to be, and hence, "cogito ergo sum" is real for them, until you put the fire under them and then they first learn that they are more then what they once thought to be.
This is where the ability to think is much like having red hair, and from there all of our senses are a part of the embodiment of man, including also our ability to look and see.
In the end this means that our body is the embodiment of the sum total of our parts, and if our ability to think is ours to justify our thoughts it would not take much to figure out that we are looking for the seer trying to see himself see. And if ever we find him, this stranger is what some of us would call God, while others say it is not.
Humans can be power hungry yes, but that has nothing to do atheists accepting that there is no god and humans are not gods either.
Um no, in the end our species will go extinct, our planet will die, our sun as well and the universe will continue on without any record of our existence.
