1) The universe has always been joined together...it's the universe. It didn't explode or rip itself from...itself either.
2) The verse says "the heaven" is expanding, not the universe.
3) There are many theories on what might happen to the universe; the Big Crunch is but one of them, and it doesn't say anything about the universe being flat. The universe is currently thought to be saddle shaped. All this is irrelevant because it hasn't happened yet, so to say the Qur'an has scientific knowledge of these is ridiculous...because it hasn't happened.
