I'm not saying that I don't believe that what I originally stated wasn't something they wanted, I just couldn't google the statement to back my claim up. I'm reasonably certain I've heard something to that effect at some point in time, but I'm not sure if I had heard it somewhere or simply made it up without realizing it. I'm also not certain if it's a tea party position or something a prominant republican had stated. I know the tea party and the GOP are pretty much the same party these days, but there are still some republicans with sanity and self-respect these days.
I've heard of even more ludicrous things that they'd want to repeal - including but not limited to:

medicare, medicaid, social security, the 17th amendment (to be replaced, apparently), the environmental protection agency, the department of education, and there were several more I'm certain I'm forgetting. The various labor laws may be in there somewhere, but those above I caught on a recent Rachel Maddow episode.

I do regular her and Olberman's shows as well as Jon and Steven's programs on Comedy Central.

So either demand that illegal immigrants get the same wage, or eliminate labour laws and minimum wage and let the workers compete for the jobs.

It would stop the "They took our jobs" argument. No one took your jobs, they were just willing to do the work for less money than you did.
It certainly would, but it would make the poor in this country much, much poorer. They might compete, certainly, but it would be for table scraps and jobs would still be fleeing this country for the developing nations that exert far less control over business practices.
The choice is almost between carnagie-style business control, where a CEO can lord over his or her employees as a british lord over serfs or having the company flee to another country where the employers can force employees to work 18 hour days, 7 days a week, on pennies on the hour in company-owned towns.
It's slavery far worse than any imagined communist america by a tea-bagger because it's a far more real reality that can easily come to pass under the flag of returning freedom to citizens of America.

Quote:Well that might lead to all kinds of corporate abuse, and corporations already abuse their employees as it is, without labour laws would be horrible and might lead to unsustainable environments for families
Like I said above, it'll just lead to the kind of slavery that borne our American Unions, which did bring about many of the labor laws we enjoy today.
Nowadays, they certainly do get away with whatever they can, but now it just seems to come to life through much more complicated and ethereal ponzie schemes, skirting safety and environmental regulations, and things of that nature.

I think we're both partly wrong. If this were a black republican president, I think we'd see the GOP pounding in the point that they're the ones who are the more progressive party in terms of black-white race relations and they'd be doing everything in their power to hush any racist tones, which might still flare up in the news. The talkies on MSNBC might point out their hypocracy and FOX would point out the racism in people who would dare complain about the Prez's right-wing policies. (Just like they labelled anyone who spoke against bush's war on Iraq as treasonous and unpatrioitc).

If the tea party flared up in this scenario, I guarentee that FOX would attempt to label them as a liberal movement and point out thier blatent racism.

In any case, it's not just that the President is black (actually half-black and half-white, but still), it's that he's both a democrat and black and we're currently seeing the reprocussions of the tizzy they've been having for the past year and a half because of that.

I would have loved to see a female black democrat president so we could see the republican's blatent misogyny as well. Especially on the FOX propoganda network.
