Possibly not, oxygen seems very useful for efficient metabolism (ianab). Of course, when the cyanoguys first did that, they damn nigh poisoned everyone else around.
Yes the anaerobic things were killed. Then aerobic life came up.
I wonder, when the sun's gonna grow, when we all die or escape to Titan or something. . . will the organisms have evolved into heat resistant things that are capable of living without water, or will life simply cease to exist?
Fascinating subject but we can only imagine and speculate
