Welcome emmasheba.
I've given consideration to a materialistic life after death, IOW no deities involved. It would require intervention on the part of more advanced (but not supernatural) beings. We're talking aliens or time-traveling (assuming the laws of physics actually permit that) future humans. They would have to be able to record the molecular patterns in one's brain and then play the recording back into some form. The advanced beings in question would have to have a reason to do this, of course. I can't say I actually believe this happens but I entertain it as a possibility.
Unlike many atheists, I am very bothered by the thought of my pending non-existence. I might not want to live literally forever but I find the time we are allocated here to be tragically short. I want much more time than I have but in the end, I doubt any advanced beings out there cares.

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
