@Strider, I suppose I've never thought of contemplating death as facing it - though I have seen people who, when contemplating death - expressed extreme discomfort or uneasiness with the idea...but, when standing at the precipice, were calm as hindu cows. Who knows though, maybe they didn't think they were going to die? On my end, I guess I could chalk it up to growing up with alot of old people - somebody was always dying - then I joined the service......familiarity breeds comfort. I never expected life to be anything -but- finite (for awhile there I actually didn't expect to live as long as I have...which really isn't that long...lol). In any case, I guess I'm just suggesting that people may find death alot easier, when they get to it, then they thought they would before they got there.
