Musically, it would be hard to do better than that piece. But the lyrics are quite religious. Whenever I hear it, I am thankful that I do not understand much Latin. But, it is a great piece of music, and otherwise very fitting for the occasion.
No problem, for these occasions I can recommend Brahms' German Requiem (which is only called that because of the language of the lyrics). The guy really knew his bible, but was basically a deist or atheist, so he managed to write a requiem based on scripture which is close to dogma-free. He himself said it was supposed to be a requiem not for the dead but for those left behind. It nevertheless is at parts gloomy turned up to 11
