Okay, first off if you're an Australian please sign this Choice petition, it is less than 2,000 signitures away from it's 12,000 goal. While you're at it you may as well sign this one as well. Then get all your friends and family to sign them.

So here's the deal.

Here's a Link to the document in question. It is VERY concerning. It proposes to invade consumer privacy and confidentiality by handing over customer details to rights holders. Something that is completely illegal in every other business in Australia, including banking.

Furthermore, the legislation will allow "rights holders" to pursue legal action from obtaining customer information. Now without going into what's wrong with that, just note that this only benefits the big players who have lobby groups representing them. It doesn't help book authors, it doesn't help musicians, it doesn't help photographers, it doesn't help video game designers or other computer programmers, frankly it doesn't help Australian interest full stop. It only helps those who are represented by ASA which is actually nothing but a front for the MPAA.

We do not want the law dictated by lobby groups: LOBBY GROUPS ARE THE BIGGEST THREAT TO DEMOCRACY. NO ONE ELECTED THEM, AND THEY REPRESENT THEIR OWN SELF-INTERESTS. THE GOVERNMENT IS SUPPOSED TO REPRESENT THE INTERESTS OF THE PUBLIC.

I will be writing letters to a number of MP's and Senators regarding this, I encourage every Australian here to do the same.

Please take the time to read the Choice article regarding the proposed code, here.

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK

"That's disgusting. There were clean athletes out there that have had their whole careers ruined by people like Lance Armstrong who just bended thoughts to fit their circumstances. He didn't look up cheating because he wanted to stop, he wanted to justify what he was doing and to keep that continuing on." - Nicole Cooke
