I'm an advocate for sexual assault victims- I'm on-call twice a month to be at a victim's side if a rape occurs. A mandated reporter is required to alert the authorities if anyone threatens elder abuse, child abuse, or self-harm. Often, when advocating for a rape victim, they'll say they just want to kill themselves. If that happens, I have to stop what I'm doing and notify the police officer on the case. "5150" is the California WIC code giving cops and clinicians carte blanche to take into custody anyone who they deem has a mental disorder and is a threat to themselves or others. If I don't report, I can get into a crap ton of legal trouble.
On another note: Creed is who inspired me to start doing this.
Sorry again to go off-topic, Creed.
So, they could report a rape and end up locked up?
I don't know what you mean by "they". If a rape victim tells me he or she wants to kill him or herself, I have to tell the authorities, and yes, the victim will more than likely end up in a hospital for observation.
